How I Recovered From Adrenal Fatigue
I am an extremist and at times, I have been known to push myself so hard that I actually end up making myself sick! There came a time where I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I literally would walk to the car and I’d be exhausted, I would go to the gym and I would force myself to do things, yet I had no energy at all. I was eating healthy and yet I seemed to be gaining weight, I honestly couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I finally went to the doctors and my doctor told me that I had Adrenal Fatigue.
When the adrenal glands are not functioning optimally; you can have a condition that is known as adrenal fatigue, or adrenal exhaustion. Adrenal fatigue often develops after periods of intense or lengthy physical or emotional stress, when over-stimulation in the glands leaves them unable to meet your body’s needs.
One would think that Adrenal Fatigue is just a curse! However, for me it has been a blessing because when I can’t do “work” that demands my body to be in perfect condition, it gives me the opportunity to do other work, such as studying and finding ways that my body can heal, rejuvenate and return back to balance.
During the past 3 years I traveled the world and would randomly return to LA and train for NPC Bikini Fitness Competitions. Thankfully, I was challenged with a few health issues that forced me to slow down & wake up!
My body was seriously shutting down due to unhealthy demands that I was asking it to do. The whole year I lived in Las Vegas I was taking three different prescription drugs to “deal” with the unbalanced fast pace life I was living: Adderall because I couldn’t focus, Xanax for my “panic attacks” at night when I couldn’t sleep because of the music and Ambien so I could sleep 7 hours to wake up and train before work.
This was a horrible recipe for disaster. All three medications were prescribed from a doctor so I didn’t allow myself to think about how I was damaging my body. I was so focused & motivated to reach my fitness goals, nothing was going to get in my way. I was so busy that I don’t even remember ever sitting down and just breathing. I didn’t do any outdoor activities that satisfied the nature lover in me, I was strictly pushing my body to the limits inside of a gym, day in and day out.
I also caught myself residing in a world that was consumed with material items and body obsession. I was just focusing on how I looked on the outside and was completely empty and disconnected on the inside.
When I was faced with Adrenal Fatigue, I knew that I need to do some serious work to get back to a healthy state for my body, mind and soul and that is where my traveling the world began. Some people may call me a Gypsy, but the truth is, I am a student of the world and when I’m traveling, I’m working, on myself: learning who I am and also learning thing that I could never read in a book.
So, in October of 2010 I listened to my gut feeling and packed up my car and headed to Santa Monica to start healing my body. During this time I simplified my lifestyle, connecting with the outdoors and educated myself on a more holistic healthy lifestyle.
When I changed my job, I was dropped from my health insurance company and was denied coverage. I now have health insurance, however I have a $7,500.00 out of pocket premium. This really fueled my fire to learn more about prevention and natural ways to heal the body so I can do everything in my power to avoid the doctors.
I’ve been practicing yoga for 9 years and loved how it made me feel. Yoga helped me slow down and I found myself wanting to learn more about the benefits. With an open mind, I jumped right in. I stopped taking all 3 drugs and detoxed my body throughout my yoga training. I have learned so much from my own life experiences and trainings that I’ve successfully healed my body! I’m so excited to keep learning, inspiring and teaching people how to live a healthy balanced life.
For six months I lived in a tree house in Maui, Hawaii and studied permaculture, sustainable living and natural ways to heal my body. I had electricity while living in my tree house, yet I had no running water, no bathroom, no cable, internet or TV. I was living life in the most basic of ways. My body was healing and I was doing it in the most natural and healthiest of ways.
I created my MT3 Fitness & Nutrition System to fill the void in this market that primarily focuses on the outside of ones body and not ones true inner well-being. My MT3 Fitness & Nutrition System has three phases: Rejuvenation, Sculpt & Maintain. I personally went through all three phases and that is how I got my body and mind back to a healthy place and cured myself of Adrenal Fatigue!
